(discipline, sleep routines, dinnertime &#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>And whatever &#8220;right&#8221; means.\u00a0 (effortlessly, patiently, attractively &#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>What is the seduction in the angsting?\u00a0 Like, if we <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dol.govt.nz\/er\/holidaysandleave\/parentalleave\/returningtowork\/\">go back to work<\/a> we worry that we are terrible mothers.\u00a0 But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/matt-walsh\/youre-a-stay-at-home-mom-_b_4086126.html\">if we stay home<\/a>, we worry that we are terrible mothers.<\/p>\n<p>So often a trawl through the literature will find arguments for and against just about anything:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sleep with Baby in your bed?\u00a0 You&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosleeping.org\/\">amazing<\/a>!\u00a0 You&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-2399238\/Co-sleeping-new-parenting-fad-experts-fear-KILL-baby.html\">irresponsible<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li>Breastfeed your 20 month old?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/dailymom.com\/nurture\/the-surprising-benefits-of-extended-breastfeeding\/\">You&#8217;re a trouper<\/a>!\u00a0 You&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/toni-nagy\/breastfeeding_b_1509962.html\">a freak<\/a>!<\/li>\n<li>Comfort your weeping child?\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/theattachedfamily.com\/?p=1255\">Beautifully responsive<\/a>!\u00a0 Horrifically <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/parenting\/guide\/spoiled-child\">indulgent<\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what&#8217;s a gal to do?\u00a0 Momma Geeks &#8230; there is such a thing as overthinking.\u00a0 There is power in trusting yourself, in honouring intuition and in tuning into that wee inner voice.\u00a0 The one that comes from your gut.<\/p>\n<p>In order to hear this in amongst the busy-ness and action of a family, find the thing that gives you quiet.\u00a0 I cherish my weekly yoga class, and I go for a stroller-walk when I can, concentrating on my breath and footsteps on the asphalt (and on avoiding the oncoming trucks from the nearby quarry).\u00a0 I know mamas who meditate, run, play music, read.\u00a0 You gotta do the thing that gives you joy, peace, calm.<\/p>\n<p>There is also great value in knowing which other voices to trust: I trust mine (usually) and I am lucky enough to have in my life other folks whose baby-views and family-thoughts matter.\u00a0 Pals.\u00a0 Mentors.<\/p>\n<p>You know who you are.\u00a0 And I thank you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geeks, There seems to be a curse on the thinking mamas.\u00a0 When it comes to motherhood, everyone I know (self included) endures waves of indecision, regret, self-doubt.
