March already. Makes me a bit clammy on the palms, as I have SO MUCH WORK to do, and a finite amount of daily brain power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, I would like to share a slew of links with you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, a couple that specifically deal with TikTok (ugh). This is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/tiktok-wants-longer-videos-like-not\/?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=1a520381-c87c-4524-ae30-ee26bb990f7e\" target=\"_blank\">from Wired, and it&#8217;s about the company&#8217;s desire to host\/post longer videos (even though longer videos stress<\/a> users out). Why would they do that, you ask? To sell more advertising, of course!! Speaking of advertising on TikTok, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/tiktok\/tiktok-enabling-predatory-adhd-advertisers-target-young-users\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/tiktok\/tiktok-enabling-predatory-adhd-advertisers-target-young-users\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">check out this craziness, about ADHD medication being pitched to youngsters<\/a>. Again: ugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a link to some work from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mediarelations.gwu.edu\/online-parenting-communities-pulled-closer-extreme-groups-spreading-misinformation-during-covid-19\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mediarelations.gwu.edu\/online-parenting-communities-pulled-closer-extreme-groups-spreading-misinformation-during-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\">George Washington University, about the peddling of COVID-19 misinformation to parent groups<\/a>,  which reminded me of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/national\/health\/coronavirus\/300520631\/its-like-a-cult-how-antivaccine-mumfluencers-are-fuelling-the-parliament-occupation\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/national\/health\/coronavirus\/300520631\/its-like-a-cult-how-antivaccine-mumfluencers-are-fuelling-the-parliament-occupation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this from NZ&#8217;s Stuff about &#8216;mumfluencers&#8217;<\/a> (that word deserves another one: ugh!). ALSO: same but different, t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/pregnancy-apps-disinformation\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/pregnancy-apps-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his is from Wired about the ways that the internet is failing mums-to-be. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What depressing news can I share with you, next? How about this, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-60314572?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=1a520381-c87c-4524-ae30-ee26bb990f7e\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-60314572?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=1a520381-c87c-4524-ae30-ee26bb990f7e\" target=\"_blank\">from the BBC, about how popular children&#8217;s game Roblox has been invaded by pervs<\/a> (are we surprised?) but LEST WE FORGET, before we go blaming children for being enticed by the online world &#8230; kids&#8217; screen habits are very much a reflection of their parents&#8217; habits, and as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2018\/07\/the-dangers-of-distracted-parenting\/561752\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2018\/07\/the-dangers-of-distracted-parenting\/561752\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this piece from the Atlantic reminds us, those parental habits MATTER.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of kids&#8217; habits &#8230; this is a piece from t<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsroom.co.nz\/screen-time-how-much-is-too-much\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.newsroom.co.nz\/screen-time-how-much-is-too-much\" target=\"_blank\">he Newsroom in NZ about screen time<\/a>, and I&#8217;ll invite you to compare and contrast that with an opinion piece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/02\/16\/social-media-is-riskier-kids-than-screen-time\/?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=15266971-1c26-4ee9-a843-8d5ebb5e3c04\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/02\/16\/social-media-is-riskier-kids-than-screen-time\/?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=15266971-1c26-4ee9-a843-8d5ebb5e3c04\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">from the Washington Post about how social media use is a much more useful yardstick than j<\/a>ust &#8216;screen time&#8217;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll end with three hopeful-ish links &#8230; first, from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2022\/jan\/31\/age-of-intimacy-famine-interact-with-phones-rather-than-loved-ones?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2022\/jan\/31\/age-of-intimacy-famine-interact-with-phones-rather-than-loved-ones?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other\" target=\"_blank\">the Guardian, about the value of prioritising in-person intimacy over our smartphones<\/a>, and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60067032\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60067032\"> THIS from the BBC &#8230; it&#8217;s about ditching the <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60067032\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60067032\" target=\"_blank\">smartphone<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60067032\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60067032\"> &#8230;<\/a> and howzabout this from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2022\/01\/machine-garden-natureless-world\/621268\/?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=86081542-4723-4910-bb6e-05855eda06fa\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2022\/01\/machine-garden-natureless-world\/621268\/?eType=EmailBlastContent&amp;eId=86081542-4723-4910-bb6e-05855eda06fa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Atlantic, encouraging connection to nature. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I mean &#8230; we are human mammals.
