(in praise of electricity)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes, it&#8217;s tempting to romanticise all that is rustic.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s just that I am a momma who values <a href=\"http:\/\/newdream.s3.amazonaws.com\/19\/d2\/d\/505\/goodtimesmadesimple.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">simplicity in the lives of her children<\/a>, or if it&#8217;s because I am a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.motherearthnews.com\/organic-gardening\/planning-a-year-round-garden-zmaz96fmzgoe.aspx#axzz2eiimckyM\" target=\"_blank\">keen veggie gardener<\/a> whose 1970&#8217;s upbringing included a reverence for self-sufficiency?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/the-press\/news\/your-weather\/9149668\/Storms-wreak-havoc-in-Canterbury\" target=\"_blank\">those gnarly storms<\/a> that hit us on Tuesday night left this family without power for 2 days, and now that it is back, I have never been so in love with electricity.\u00a0 Gotta say, though: I DID love waking and sleeping in alignment with what the sun was doing.\u00a0 Our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-scientist.com\/?articles.view\/articleNo\/36888\/title\/Electric-Lights-Alter-Daily-Rhythms\/\" target=\"_blank\">poor wee caveman bodies are a bit confused by what faux lights do<\/a> to our circadian rhythms.\u00a0 I think we&#8217;d have less drama about babies&#8217; sleep if we had slightly less spazzy sleep habits ourselves.\u00a0 Anyway: Mt.
