{"id":71,"date":"2013-09-09T20:31:35","date_gmt":"2013-09-09T08:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=71"},"modified":"2013-09-10T10:07:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T22:07:00","slug":"overanalysis-paralysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=71","title":{"rendered":"overanalysis paralysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gotta be careful, my geeky brothers &amp; sisters.\u00a0 I&#8217;m all a-flutter about the new website and I have been kind of staring at it for ages &#8230; poised.\u00a0 So full of anticipation and humble-hearted that I wind up a great ball of inactivity!\u00a0 Thus: let&#8217;s dive in and do what Baby Geeks DO.\u00a0 A broad trawl of interesting stuff and a scoot through some child-focused, science-y links.\u00a0 Behold!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/technology\/data_mine_1\/2013\/09\/facebook_privacy_and_kids_don_t_post_photos_of_your_kids_online.2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Let&#8217;s start with a piece from Slate<\/a> that I am choosing to serve as an explanation as to why my photos are always a bit disjointed and odd.\u00a0 I am pretty passionate about preserving the anonymity of my children.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/xx_factor\/2013\/09\/04\/twitter_for_babies_media_elites_tweet_in_the_voice_of_their_kids_think_of.html\" target=\"_blank\">Also from Slate<\/a>: the grossness of celebrities who tweet the voices of their children.<\/p>\n<p>While we&#8217;re being suspicious of technology (an effortless task for this geek), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/xx_factor\/2013\/09\/04\/twitter_for_babies_media_elites_tweet_in_the_voice_of_their_kids_think_of.html\" target=\"_blank\">here is a li&#8217;l something<\/a> about use of tablets with children (not asprin, iPads).\u00a0 Might be time for an appy change?\u00a0 For real, though, it should be no surprise that the advice for parents seems to be very similar as the advice we&#8217;ve always been given re: the telly &#8211; resist the temptation to use it as a babysitter, instead use it as an opportunity for connection and a springboard for conversation.\u00a0 Because <a href=\"http:\/\/opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/04\/10\/the-power-of-talking-to-your-baby\/?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">talking with children<\/a> is really important, eh?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news.com.au\/lifestyle\/parenting\/fit-children-are-running-climbing-and-jumping-to-smarter-conclusions\/story-fngqim8m-1226609207573\" target=\"_blank\">Here is a write up<\/a> about some Australian research reinforcing the role of exercise in boosting kids&#8217; cognitive abilities, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/science\/articles\/2013\/08\/30\/3833999.htm\" target=\"_blank\">let this inspire pregnant mommas<\/a> (and the rest of us!) to eat well, and I&#8217;m a wee bit excited about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.preventionaction.org\/research\/less-controlling-way-promote-good-parenting\/5976\" target=\"_blank\">this burgeoning parenting ed info<\/a> from Norway.\u00a0 While you&#8217;re there, have a geez at the menu on the left of the article.\u00a0 You might go NUTS.\u00a0 I did.<\/p>\n<p>Here is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/lifestyle\/life\/paternal-influence-crucial-to-the-success-of-children-report-20130831-2sxf8.html#ixzz2dhOPnmAw\" target=\"_blank\">yet another piece<\/a> about the value of fathers, this is a fairly fabulous article from Psychology Today about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/articles\/201306\/what-happy-people-do-differently\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;What Happy People Do Differently&#8221;<\/a>, and &#8230; just cos I am a bit in love with myself for taking my kids swimming yesterday (*I am NOT a naturally aquatic creature and barely EVER do my poor children get this experience on my watch!)
