{"id":647,"date":"2018-08-17T13:29:27","date_gmt":"2018-08-17T01:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=647"},"modified":"2018-08-17T13:29:27","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T01:29:27","slug":"vive-la-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=647","title":{"rendered":"vive la France!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Salut mes amis,<br \/>\nKia Ora e hoa ma,<br \/>\nG&#8217;day mates,\u00a0 hey y&#8217;all, hello my friends.<\/p>\n<p>The resistance is rumbling.\u00a0 There have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2018\/jun\/22\/mobile-phones-french-school-ban\">courageous law changes in France meaning that the children and adolescents there are being given mandated time away<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2018\/8\/8\/17664580\/persuasive-technology-psychology\">persuasive design of the tech companie<\/a>s that live in all our cellphones and feed off our attention.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which, I enjoyed this trifecta of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/free-speech-issue-yondr-smartphones\/\" target=\"_blank\">articles about Yondr, which is a simple and exciting option for creating tech-free oases<\/a>.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/inspired-life\/wp\/2018\/02\/05\/this-millennial-discovered-a-surprisingly-simple-solution-to-smartphone-addiction-schools-love-it\/?utm_term=.ba6a86d18094\" target=\"_blank\">Yes, schools are a perfect place to be phone-free<\/a>, (may I remind you of <a href=\"http:\/\/cep.lse.ac.uk\/pubs\/download\/dp1350.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">this report from the London School of Economics<\/a>) but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altpress.com\/news\/yondr_case_puts_focus_on_being_present\/\" target=\"_blank\">also at live shows<\/a> (we should <em><strong>all<\/strong><\/em> be allowed to be one with the music without fear of some meanie uploading our gyrations &amp; undulations without permission!)<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commercialfreechildhood.org\/sites\/default\/files\/devel-generate\/gaw\/FBMessengerKids.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood have sent this open lette<\/a>r to Mark Zuckerberg (if you know him, give him a nudge will you?)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2018\/08\/08\/health\/ap-us-med-hooking-kids-on-tech.html\" target=\"_blank\">the Children&#8217;s Screen Time Action Network are continuing to advocate and agitate<\/a>, which is just as well; because there are multiple layers to the weirdness of tech in kids&#8217; lives, like\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal; font-weight: 300;\">how\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-style: normal; font-weight: 300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2017\/05\/170524101501.htm\" target=\"_blank\">our distracted parenting can lead to bonkers patterns of child misbehaviour<\/a><span style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal; font-weight: 300;\">\u00a0(and subsequent avoidance &#8230; the downward cycle of technoference, just like\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-style: normal; font-weight: 300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1f-csfLNyjA\" target=\"_blank\">McDaniel told ya<\/a><span style=\"color: #333333;
