{"id":611,"date":"2018-05-03T15:22:40","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T03:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=611"},"modified":"2018-05-03T15:23:44","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T03:23:44","slug":"quick-and-squinty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=611","title":{"rendered":"quick and squinty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Geeks!<\/p>\n<p>I have a bit of a headache and I suspect tech use is not helping.\u00a0 Eyes are unhappy, so I&#8217;ll make this snappy.\u00a0 Damn, I&#8217;m poetic under pressure!<\/p>\n<p>K: so, let&#8217;s begin and end with podcasts, shall we?\u00a0 The first one I have listened to already &#8211; it&#8217;s good.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/urbanmonk.libsyn.com\/your-wired-child-with-guest-richard-freed\" target=\"_blank\">From the Urban Monk podcast, with our new pal Dr. Freed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/a>IT was a response to <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@richardnfreed\/the-tech-industrys-psychological-war-on-kids-c452870464ce\" target=\"_blank\">this awesome article on Medium<\/a>, which we&#8217;ve linked to previous like.<\/p>\n<p>While we are reviewing the need for caution around familial tech use, c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/sponsored\/morgan-stanley-2018\/how-well-do-we-understand-the-tech-habits-of-parents\/1775\/?&amp;utm_source=TL_ATL_O_1775_1\" target=\"_blank\">heck out this article from the Atlantic, <\/a>wondering how much we know about the tech habits of parents.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been doing a TON of reading on this very topic, now that I have university library privileges (WHOOP!! WHOOP!!).<\/p>\n<p>This is why we are joining in on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.screenfree.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Screen Free Week<\/a> &#8211; at least some family members are.\u00a0 We just seem to need to be reminded about other stuff we love doing.\u00a0 Lego!\u00a0 Cross stitch!\u00a0 Playing guitar!<\/p>\n<p>I get the irony that I am online posting this during said week, but I&#8217;m at least trying to clear tabs before children return home.\u00a0 And this is not entirely entertainment media.\u00a0 So there.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/how-to-think-about-implicit-bias\/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=mind&amp;utm_content=link&amp;utm_term=2018-03-28_featured-this-week\" target=\"_blank\">article from Scientific American about implicit bias<\/a> (cos, why not?) and t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/01596306.2015.1105788\" target=\"_blank\">his is a link to an abstract for a paper about doing postgrad study<\/a>\u00a0with a title that made me smile.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothering.com\/articles\/new-zealand-prime-minister-will-make-history-taking-maternity-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\">And check out the smartypants commenter on this article from Mothering magazine<\/a>.\u00a0 Oh wait, that&#8217;s me &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>While we&#8217;re talking parental leave and Mothering mag,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothering.com\/articles\/heres-women-around-world-really-think-u-s-maternity-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\"> here is an article about the attitudes of women around the world maternity leave laws in the US<\/a>.\u00a0 Mate.\u00a0 I shake my head.\u00a0 If a culture isn&#8217;t cherishing mamas and babies, that is called Devolution.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, to get us back on track, behold the wisdom and wonder of <a href=\"http:\/\/thedoctorparadox.com\/dansiegel\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Dan Siegel, interviewed here on the Doctor Paradox podcast<\/a>.\u00a0 This is the one I haven&#8217;t listened to yet, but will tend to that tomorrow during school hours!\u00a0 Thanks to the lovely Dr. C for this link.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geeks!
