{"id":566,"date":"2017-08-24T09:56:27","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T21:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=566"},"modified":"2017-08-24T09:56:27","modified_gmt":"2017-08-23T21:56:27","slug":"a-few-links-on-a-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=566","title":{"rendered":"a few links on a Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kia Ora te wh\u0101nau<\/p>\n<p>What a week! \u00a0Had a beautiful workshop with teachers on Tuesday arvo, I&#8217;ll be back to work with the parents of the self-same preschool on Tuesday night. \u00a0Groovester. \u00a0Meanwhile, tomorrow I&#8217;m teaching a coupla workshops (play as springboard to classroom curriculum, yes, even in primary school!) and delivering a keynote (technoference-ish stuff). \u00a0Big! \u00a0Busy!<\/p>\n<p>Irony not lost &#8211; perfect late-winter weather out there, and what am I doing? \u00a0Tapping away indoors, encouraging less engagement with screens by &#8230; what, what! &#8230; engaging with my screen.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, let&#8217;s share a few links, shall we? \u00a0First, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/education\/archive\/2016\/08\/what-bostons-preschools-get-right\/493952\/\">from the Atlantic, an excellent piece about the free preschools of Boston.<\/a> \u00a0Play, you say? \u00a0Well supported &amp; educated teachers? \u00a0Radical! \u00a0(not) \u00a0Now, from the Guardian, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/teacher-network\/2015\/dec\/02\/schools-that-ban-tablets-traditional-education-silicon-valley-london\">enjoy this write up about the rise of low-tech schools in high-tech regions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a wee while since I shared the excellent organisation known as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truceteachers.org\">TRUCE (teachers resisting unhealthy children&#8217;s entertainment)<\/a> &#8230; their ideas are excellent and their toy guides are worth downloading\/sharing. \u00a0Speaking of unhealthy entertainment, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2017\/05\/02\/526514168\/why-social-media-isnt-always-very-social\">this is a link to a v good episode of the EXCELLENT &#8216;Hidden Brain&#8217; podcast, from NPR. \u00a0This episode deals with the tomfoolery that exists within social media. \u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Essential reading, now &#8230;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/moral-landscapes\/201008\/the-decline-children-and-the-moral-sense\">This is an article from Psychology Today that just made my heart bounce with recognition<\/a>.
