{"id":530,"date":"2017-03-20T09:05:51","date_gmt":"2017-03-19T21:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=530"},"modified":"2017-03-21T05:51:41","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T17:51:41","slug":"waiau-lincoln-and-in-between","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=530","title":{"rendered":"Waiau, Lincoln, and in between"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If I were a cleverer geek I&#8217;d be able to insert a nice graphic from Saturday&#8217;s ECE Expo. \u00a0Alas, I am supremely human (ie: flawed as can be!) so I&#8217;ll ask you to just tolerate one of the ultra uncool, non-web-wonderful posts that are my default setting.<\/p>\n<p>What a time it&#8217;s been. \u00a0I never reported back on the excellence of a visit to Waiau with the glorious Dr. Jackie and the extraordinary Steph from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainwave.org.nz\/\">Brainwave Trust Aotearoa<\/a>. \u00a0What an amazing opportunity to connect with a warm, authentic, courageous group of families. \u00a0I honour the whole darned lot of yiz.<\/p>\n<p>And this weekend was also an utter treat: <a href=\"http:\/\/4es.nz\/\">Libby and her crew<\/a> organised a professional and enriching day and I greatly cherished being able to present. \u00a0The folks in my session were open and engaged and willing &#8230; we had some fun, eh?<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to hear more from Dr. Perry and his profoundly transformative recipe: \u00a0&#8220;Regulate, Relate, Reason&#8221;, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetraumatherapistproject.com\/podcast\/bruce-perry-md-phd\/\">check out this link, which includes a podcast<\/a>. \u00a0Listen while you prep dinner!<\/p>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/buddhify.com\/\">here is a link to the Buddhify app,<\/a> which is just one of a quadrillion breath\/meditation type helpers. \u00a0I adore it. \u00a0And <a href=\"https:\/\/yogawithadriene.vhx.tv\/yoga-quickies\">give Adriene&#8217;s &#8220;Yoga Quickies&#8221; a try<\/a>, for if you&#8217;ve just got a few minutes and need a reboot. \u00a0Love her! \u00a0Amazing!<\/p>\n<p>(*btw two things I should have referenced on the day: the line &#8220;set yourself up for greatness&#8221; is one of Adriene&#8217;s, and the Imaginary Extra Day activity was inspired by a book called\u00a0<i>\u201cThe Gift of Play: Why Adult Women Stop Playing and How to Start Again\u201d<\/i>, by author <a href=\"http:\/\/letsplaymore.com\/\">Barbara Brannen<\/a>. )<\/p>\n<p>Also I referred to the awesomeness of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rickhanson.net\/\">Dr. Rick Hanson, you can find more about him here.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0I enjoy all of his writing, including his weekly newsletters, and I subscribe to his podcast, too. \u00a0Check out Episode 4 for more of that &#8220;noticing that you are already oK&#8221; practice. \u00a0SO YUMMY AND WISE.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, a couple here from <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.scientificamerican.com\/sa-visual\/this-is-your-brain-on-poverty\/\">Scientific American, first a graphic look at the impact of poverty on the brain<\/a> (ugh) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/what-inequality-does-to-the-brain\/\">this article<\/a> expands the ideas represented in the first.<\/p>\n<p>Another one from the &#8220;What the HECK?&#8221; file, <a href=\"https:\/\/hms.harvard.edu\/news\/milk-matters\">this is a piece from Harvard Medical School <\/a>about the far reaching benefits and implications of supporting breastfeeding. \u00a0American data, but interesting nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/onbeing.org\/programs\/anil-dash-techs-moral-reckoning\/\">This episode of the podcast &#8216;On Being&#8217;<\/a> blew my mind, and now I&#8217;m going to have to check out more from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anil_Dash\">Anil Dash<\/a>, because he might be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kXvZf7TmT3k\">hope for a generation<\/a>. \u00a0 The latest episode of On Being has an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg22429941-200-the-lifelong-cost-of-burying-our-traumatic-experiences\/\">Bessel Van der Kolk, he of the Body Keeps the Score<\/a>. \u00a0Y&#8217;know, I keep trying to get everyone to read it! \u00a0Can&#8217;t wait to listen to that one.<\/p>\n<p>Another podcast in my queue, recommended by one of my favourite gals, and from one of my favourite &#8216;casts! \u00a0T<a href=\"http:\/\/www.radiolab.org\/story\/from-tree-to-shining-tree\/\">his looks awesome, from Radiolab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upworthy.com\/7-secrets-to-raising-awesome-functional-teenagers\">did I share this yet?
