{"id":487,"date":"2016-10-27T09:17:33","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T21:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=487"},"modified":"2016-10-27T09:24:31","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T21:24:31","slug":"nearly-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=487","title":{"rendered":"nearly November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>geez. \u00a0I know everyone says time speeds up as we age, but this year is beyond ridiculous, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>I can feel myself on the verge of becoming one of those people who just keeps the Christmas decorations up, year round. \u00a0Because I&#8217;ve barely put all the tinsel into its boxes and back in the barn &#8230; and it&#8217;s time to get it all out again!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, my geeky brothers and sisters. \u00a0There are plenty of links I&#8217;d like to share with y&#8217;all today. \u00a0Here they come, with no particular order and no promise of snazzy segways in between &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A couple of foodie bits first, this about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.takepart.com\/article\/2016\/07\/11\/kids-admit-commercials-make-them-pester-parents-junk-food\">children&#8217;s &#8216;pester power&#8217; when it comes to the marketing of junk food<\/a>, and this one wondering about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beyondchron.org\/secret-getting-kids-eat-veggies\/\">alleged secrets to getting children to eat their vegetables<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parentingrc.org.au\/images\/Resources\/Evidence-review-Analysis-of-evidence-parenting-interventions-for-vulnerable-children-6yrs\/EvidenceReview_ParentingInterventionsVulnerableChn6yrs_NZ_June2014.pdf\">This is a report from our Families Commission, back in 2013<\/a>, reviewing evidence of efficacy for parenting programmes targeted at supporting vulnerable parents, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eif.org.uk\/publication\/foundations-for-life-what-works-to-support-parent-child-interaction-in-the-early-years\/\">here is a similar (albeit more recent) effort from the UK<\/a>. \u00a0Meanwhile, t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcp.wa.gov.au\/ChildrenInCare\/Documents\/Building%20Safe%20and%20Strong%20Families%20-%20Earlier%20Intervention%20and%20Family%20Support%20Strategy.pdf\">his is what the state government in Western Australia <\/a>is up to, to help vulnerable families.<\/p>\n<p>What else? \u00a0Um &#8230;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLxBtkDNdrpP3InSgGypkuF23KgTUM-hC3\">Here is the You Tube channel<\/a> of\u00a0Stony Brook University&#8217;s Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics. \u00a0We&#8217;ll never run out of stuff to view, eh?<\/p>\n<p>This link will take you to a publication from the <a href=\"http:\/\/pediatrics.aappublications.org\/content\/138\/2\/e20161298\">American Academy of Pediatrics, it&#8217;s about virtual violence <\/a>(and children&#8217;s exposure to it &#8230;) <a href=\"http:\/\/research.acer.edu.au\/learning_processes\/20\/\">AND here is something v useful from the Australian Council for Educational Research.<\/a> \u00a0It&#8217;s going to be very useful for classroom teachers, it&#8217;s about the implications of exposure to trauma. \u00a0Speaking of trauma (aren&#8217;t we always?) <a href=\"https:\/\/changingmindsnow.org\/\">this is a link to a useful website <\/a>about such thangs.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, from the magnificent <a href=\"http:\/\/developingchild.harvard.edu\/resources\/child-welfare-systems\/\">Center for the Developing Child, a paper about using the Science of child development in Child Welfare systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>geez. \u00a0I know everyone says time speeds up as we age, but this year is beyond ridiculous, isn&#8217;t it?
