{"id":281,"date":"2015-02-26T19:34:05","date_gmt":"2015-02-26T07:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=281"},"modified":"2015-09-04T15:46:48","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T03:46:48","slug":"tell-the-children-the-truth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=281","title":{"rendered":"tell the children the truth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey friends and geeks<\/p>\n<p>I came to a life of Baby Geek-ery via the wonderful world of early childhood education. \u00a0And I&#8217;m pretty sure that I trained as an early childhood teacher during a Golden Age &#8211; the early nineties, when funding wasn&#8217;t that bad and when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.educate.ece.govt.nz\/learning\/curriculumandlearning\/tewhariki.aspx\">Te Whariki <\/a>-the glorious curriculum of New Zealand ECE &#8211; was just being published.<\/p>\n<p>We were taught about cool, mildly radical ideas like the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anti-bias_curriculum\">Anti Bias Curriculum<\/a>, which is a way of thinking, being, and organising life in an early childhood centre with a view to actively promoting social justice. \u00a0Instead of ignoring the racist graffiti, teachers with an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachingforchange.org\/programs\/anti-bias-education\">Anti Bias<\/a> focus arm their children with paint and brushes and explain the need to obliterate the ugly sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been wondering where this gentle activism is, in light of the influx of princess play and the pinkification of girlhood. \u00a0(re: pinkification &#8230; Enjoy this awesome blog by an at-home dad, <a href=\"http:\/\/manvspink.com\/\">Man Vs.
