{"id":192,"date":"2014-05-29T18:18:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-29T06:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=192"},"modified":"2014-05-29T18:18:33","modified_gmt":"2014-05-29T06:18:33","slug":"and-more-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=192","title":{"rendered":"and more links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many interesting and varied things, in no particular order &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I LOVE <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/unleashing-the-creative-mind-creativity-special\/?&amp;WT.mc_id=SA_MB_20140528\" target=\"_blank\">this, from Scientific American<\/a>, about creativity. \u00a0I used to teach a College class called &#8220;Fostering Creativity&#8221;, back in the day, and at the time I went to a meeting where a woman disdained teaching creativity to children, saying &#8220;I don&#8217;t want my kids to be artists &#8230;&#8221;. \u00a0At the time I was all goldfish mouthed and hopeless, but if I had my wits about me I&#8217;d briefly defend the artistic life, and then remind her that scientific and technological breakthroughs are going to depend upon a creative approach to whatever. \u00a0The quote I love from that Sci-Am article back there:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As it turns out, creativity is just as important in medicine and engineering as it is in journalism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.childtrends.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/WFM-2014-Final-LoRes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">THIS pdf<\/a>, from www.childtrends.org, will take a while to download but you will be so glad you did it. \u00a0It is full of amazing maps that show various trends in child &amp; family well being, all around the world. \u00a0You&#8217;re welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Other stuff: The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/psycinfo\/2014-12893-001\/\" target=\"_blank\">abstract to some research about families who use corporal punishment<\/a>, and how what they do differs to what they SAY they do. \u00a0I like it when non-brainiac sources talk neuroscience, like t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.co.uk\/magazine\/archive\/2014\/05\/features\/game-your-brain\/viewall\" target=\"_blank\">his from Wired<\/a> mag.<\/p>\n<p>Here is<a href=\"http:\/\/touch.latimes.com\/#section\/-1\/article\/p2p-80145404\/\" target=\"_blank\"> a piece about infant memory<\/a>, \u00a0this is a description of f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcri.edu.au\/news\/2014\/may\/maternal-depression\/\" target=\"_blank\">indings about maternal depression<\/a> (*peaking when children are four years old &#8230; implications, anyone?) and &#8230; REALLY?
