{"id":181,"date":"2014-04-22T12:42:51","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T00:42:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=181"},"modified":"2014-12-18T10:53:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T22:53:00","slug":"life-by-the-bucketload","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/baby.geek.nz\/?p=181","title":{"rendered":"life by the bucketload."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I type this I can see more apples falling from the trees of my crazy-prolific wee home orchard. \u00a0Already today I&#8217;ve scooped up SIX bucketloads (many were fed to our pigs). \u00a0Add to that the THREE bucketloads of ash I emptied from the firebox in the living room and I would call that a <a href=\"http:\/\/bucketlist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">bucket list<\/a> of a different sort.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.familytimes.co.nz\/category\/podcasts\/#.U1Qq9q2SxAs\" target=\"_blank\">This is a link of many of the podcasts<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NathanMikaereWallis?ref=stream\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan<\/a> and I recorded back in the summer. \u00a0If you haven&#8217;t seen any, make a cuppa and hang out with us for a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Now I gotta share with you something just fantastic &#8230; something I wish everyone would read &#8230; an amazing piece from the Atlantic, called &#8220;How to Land your Kid in Therapy&#8221;. \u00a0It is an absolutely<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2011\/07\/how-to-land-your-kid-in-therapy\/308555\/?single_page=true\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0astonishing article and you can find it here<\/a> &#8230; It kind of challenges our parental preoccupation with &#8220;You are so special and I want you to be happy!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Similar but different <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/life\/family\/2014\/02\/motivating_teenagers_how_do_you_do_it.2.html\" target=\"_blank\">article is here from Slate<\/a>, about motivating teenagers (also about letting kids experience failure).<\/p>\n<p>(I am hereby mildly obsessed with the word\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/eudaemonia\" target=\"_blank\">eudaemonia<\/a>.\u00a0 Thanks to stats geek for this word o\u2019 the day!)<\/p>\n<p>Anyhoo, speaking of having your thinking challenged &#8230; as visitors to this website know, I\u2019m very <a href=\" www.buddhify.com \" target=\"_blank\">pro-mindfulness<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0Especially as it applies<a href=\"http:\/\/themindfulparent.org\/The_Mindful_Parent\/Welcome.html\" target=\"_blank\"> to parenting<\/a>.\u00a0 But it is pretty interesting to read an alternative perspective to being all-mindful, all the time &#8230; ah yes!\u00a0 The beauty and power of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/01\/19\/magazine\/breathing-in-vs-spacing-out.html?_r=1 \" target=\"_blank\"> a wandering mind<\/a>! \u00a0Enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>A couple more links now &#8230; a kind of beginners guide to attachment theory is in <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Technology\/love-means\/story?id=23208782&amp;singlePage=true\" target=\"_blank\">this piece by ABC news<\/a> (I TRY to resist the urge to say &#8220;like, durrr &#8230; are you just learning this now?&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Anyone want to join me for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.screenfree.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Screen Free Week<\/a>, 2014?
